Does Yahoo ever ask for a person’s email address and password to update their database?

I just got an email -allegedly from Yahoo- stating they were updating their database and wanted my email address and password or all my email would be erased within 3 days. Is this a hoax?

You will never be asked for your password by anyone in any company anywhere! That is why you are given choices to list your memorable place, date and other information that no one else could know about on your applications for accounts to organizations. It is likely you will be asked different info each time, say for instance you ring twice in one evening. I really do not mind being asked questions in depth. It is reassuring others are taking my security seriously.
Always check with the company concerned if you are in doubt about an e mail or caller at the door. He won’t hang around if you take the trouble to close the door on him while you check him out. Using the company details on your bill, not what he hands to you!
