How can I get my Microsoft Outlook to work?

I double click on the Microsoft Outlook icon and it says “Unable to open your default email folders” and it goes straight to “My Computer”. I chose a hotmail address as my email account but I tried sending an email to another address of mine but I did not receive it.
Please explain to me what I need to do to get this working in not so technical terms that will help me understand better. I don’t know what server and default means. Thanks.

It gives me a choice between Full version and Upgrade Version…

I heard some news about it, I forgot where, but the news says that since Windows XP would soon be phased out, Microsoft is letting genuine XP users download a free OS of Vista. Not sure about it though. If it’s true, where can I download it? If it’s not, thanks a lot for the info.

My Microsoft 2007 trial is over and I cannot afford to purchase it right now. I have Microsoft XP left over. I have documents I must complete today. What is your advice? Should I use XP until I get 2007 or am I taking a risk here?

It always opens in Microsoft Office or something and it asks about setting it as default and I choose no, but .doc files always open in Office, not notepad or Word. I have a Windows 98, so how can I set Word as my default program for documents?

My Microsoft Office 2007 trial ended last Sunday and now I can’t use any of my Word or Excel files. Is there any way to go back to the old excel without the original or any back up disks?
