Im living with a roommate in rented room. We have Internet connection which is provided by the owner of the house using router. Ever since the day my roommate started living with me, the internet connection became lousy. I believe my friend downloaded movie torrents everyday but he never admit it. Is there any way i can monitor the internet usage of my friend so that i have proof to tell him to reduce the amount of download?

Find out what OS and anti-virus/malware/spyware your friend has. If your friend has a PC, and the OS is earlier than XP, for example, that computer is likely to be wide-open in terms of security, and is probably part of a bot-net or something even more nefarious.
Since you probably don’t have administrative privileges to the router, you will not be able to monitor the bandwidth usage. However, you could perform a simple experiment. Wait until your friend is gone, shut off their computer (or unplug their ethernet cable if you’re not using WiFi) and then gage your internet speed. Check it again when s/he is using their machine.
The news is probably bad. Your friend, if male, is probably sucking all the bandwidth to download porn – sorry, but this is likely the case. Good luck – surf safely!
