How do you get wireless internet service so you can use internet on laptop away from home?

What are my options for using laptop away from home and having internet service to do so? Do i subscribe to a certain service? How does this work? I know have dsl with a desk top but don't have the laptop service and not sure how that works i ordered a laptop with a wireless card.

Yes you have to subscribe to a service that has coverage in the area you want to use the laptop. Check with providers like http://www.Clearwire.com or Verizon Wireless or SprintPCS. All provide that wireless service.
Once you subscribe, the service provider can instruct you on how to use their service.
Also, if you are in an area with wifi hot spots, you could use those for internet service as well. Most likely it will be places like coffee shops, or bread stores (Like Panera). Of course, you would be limited to their operating hours.
