Assuming Windows-
First, if you don’t know if you have a wireless adapter on your computer, go to;
- device manager (start > control panel > system > device manager) and expand the ‘network adapters’ sub menu. – If you see anything that says ‘wireless’ there, right-click it and make sure it is enabled (if it says ‘disable’, it’s good, if it says ‘enable’, click it). If you don’t see a wireless adapter there, you’ll need to get one.
Then get a wireless router. There are lots of them out there but I recommend getting a Linksys because they are highly configurable, very reliable, standardized, flexible, and economical. You can get one from walmart for $60 +/-
Unplug the power from your modem, then;
Make the connection as follows:
From the wall port, connect your modem.
From your modem, connect your wireless router.
From your wireless router, connect devices that you had previously connected directly to your modem (your desktop computer).
Plug power into your modem
plug power into your router
turn on your desktop and begin with the installation disk that came with the router.
Good luck!
