I’m trying to make my document into a really small booklet but it says that I have to reformat my work, 10 cm across. I have Microsoft Word 2007. Anyone help me please?

I originally typed a (long) story in WordPad, but then converted it into a Microsoft Word document. Then when I go to open it as a Wordpad document, the text is all messed up like this:

JíZ¶J µwæj?•?tß ?@???G@B?4.Å?¡5ñ.

But when I open it in the converted version (Microsoft Word) everything is normal, the exact way I typed it in WordPad.

Why is it doing this?
